‘The Strike’ is an experimental novel set in a depressed factory town in the far North East of China. The novel uses a linguistic strategy which aims to subvert expectations about the correspondence between syntactic and semantic structures.

Conventional syntax shapes the way we perceive reality by encoding conceptual relations, particularly temporal relations, or causality.

Nightingale Trapped in Urn: "No Comment," says Keats

is highly recommended for you to read.

The piece aspires to music and employs a musical toolset – in the mode of jazz, or a fugue – in that a limited set of themes are returned to over and over, building on themselves through repetitions that are successively altered in creative or unexpected ways (even mischievously including a section that is actually a stanza!), yet all driving toward the same end and reaching a definitive conclusion. This allows the reader (or listener) to access a degree of mystical or trance-like consciousness during his or her experience of the text.

4 Prose Poems by Caroline Lavers are now in Issue 2, as well as a visual piece which could be categorized as outsider art. Caroline has given us an extensive commentary on her writing as a whole, on individual pieces, and her life. When writing she sometimes feels she is channeling someone's essence through her, such as that of her her father who has passed on.
