This page contains the Challenge, questions for people to answer about it. I answered some myself and the conversation continued to my response On the Unexplainable, which was chosen for the 2nd Quarterly Review, "the place to be at Bewildering Stories."
Awhile back, an article I wrote on teaching Experimental Fiction was published by SWI Magazine and by Bewildering Stories, which then they created a Challenge.
This page contains the Challenge, questions for people to answer about it. I answered some myself and the conversation continued to my response On the Unexplainable, which was chosen for the 2nd Quarterly Review, "the place to be at Bewildering Stories." What's Happening?Welcome to Tantra's Experimental Literature Blog, and may it serve you well Want to keep up with what's going on in my hub of Experimental Literature today, from the Experimental Writing FaceBook page, to transition with classes, to a new Experimental short story on THIS site by Philip Toner, to my latest publication, which is Lucid Fiction style?
Today I wrote my a Note on my FaceBook page, Experimental Writing, briefly describing what that style of literature is. The FaceBook page has a discussion area that includes Collaborations. Collaboration 1 is now possibly done, and we're onto number 2. I feel number 1 deserves to be published in a magazine, so I will submit it, with all participants' names listed, as well as the amount they contributed. But to see who wrote what, go to the FB page. Anyone wanting to contribute links or photos or discussions etc. to that page, jump in. We're now at 94 members. The Spring Semester of Experimental Fiction Writing through UCLA is now ending, a wonderful classfull of enthusiastic, dedicated writers encouraging each other to create very publishable work. Some of it can be seen in the EXCLUSIVE section of this site. A new story has been published by Philip Toner, who resides in Belgium. His short story reminds me a bit of Calvino, whom some students liked and others did not, as we studied his work briefly. All however, liked Philip's story. Come take a look and see how he approaches the story form by starting fresh, without relying on any conventions of any story elements. His story is a witty take on both catalogs, and literature Next up is my Advanced Experimental Fiction Writing Class. This will likely be a smaller class, so with less work for students than the UCLA Extension Class, the same number of weeks, yet less expensive. It is not limited to students of my other classes. It will include more exercises, more authors to look at, is geared towards students working on longer pieces, such as novels if desired, as well as short stories. Now that the fundamentals are understood, we can go in more directions, and produce even better writing, if such a thing is possible. Sign up for this class through the icon in the Classes section of this site, or through Teach Street. My newest publication is at Bewildering Stories, which has published many things of mine. It's an example of Lucid Fiction, talking about subjects that are generally forbidden, literature of the new paradigm as we wake up to what's going on. It is set in the present, rather than pretending, as in Sci Fi, that these things only happen in the future, on spec. It shakes out of the usual story structure, yet does tell a story about a Montauk boy (a la Peter Moon) grown up, who is implanted, manipulated, followed by black helis, with magical occurrences afoot. It's Inside Recursive Glass-Blown Rooms of Explosive Truth. I am judging the FlameFlower Experimental Short Story Contest July 4th, so get your entries in now. There are some stories worthy of winning already, but room for many more to be considered. The inside scoop is that the number of entries is relatively small, so you may have a good chance of winning. |
